And though it seems a long way away, here is a rundown of our Thanksgiving
programs: 1 to 2 pm -- Dennis Wilson: Pacific Ocean Blue In 1977, Dennis Wilson’s Pacific Ocean Blue became the first solo LP to be released by a member of the legendary Beach Boys. More than 3 decades after its release, it stands as one of the great cult-classic albums of the 1970s and a crucial puzzle-piece in the Wilson family’s long musical history. Voices of family, friends and colleagues help complete the picture of a complex artist. Joyride Media 2 to 3 pm -- The Elvis Presley ’68 Comeback TV Guide recently named the NBC December 1968 “Elvis Comeback Special” as one of the “Most Memorable Moments in Television History.” Go behind the scenes to hear unplugged sessions, backstage rehearsals and other rarely heard recordings, in raw recordings that are some of the move captivating that Elvis ever set to tape. Joyride Media 3 to 5 pm -- Willie Nelson: My Own Peculiar Way and True Outlaw Stories Rodney Crowell hosts two hours of songs and stories about the country legend and American maverick that will take you deep inside Willie’s heart, soul and mind. Features hilarious episodes from the “band of gypsies” on tour with him over the last 40 years, plus his best-known songs and his life story. Joyride Media7 to 8 pm -- Barbara Cook: My Life in American Music This KCRW exclusive features music and memories that showcase her career from across six decades of Broadway musical, concerts and cabaret performances. Wow, wow, wow. It's finally on folks! The greatly anticipated first debate between McCain and Obama almost didn't happen, but I for one, cannot wait to hear what the two of them have to say. Of course you can count on us to bring it to you. Here's the schedule in juicy detail:
KCRW DEBATE COVERAGE
The 90-minute debates are all scheduled to air at 6 pm PST and will last 90 minutes. They will be followed by 30 minutes of NPR wrap-up and analysis from 7:30 to 8pm, hosted by Linda Wertheimer
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 6pm -- First Presidential debate at University of Mississippi
Topic: Foreign policy and national security
Moderator: Jim Lehrer of PBS
Staging: Podiums
Format: Broken into nine 9-minute segments. The moderator will introduce a topic
and allow each candidate 2 minutes to comment, then facilitate a discussion for
the remaining 5 minutes.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 2, 6pm -- Vice-Presidential debate at Washington U. in St. Louis
Moderator: Gwen Ifill, PBS
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 6pm -- Second Presidential debate at Belmont University in Nashville.
Moderator: Tom Brokaw of NBC
Staging: Town hall
Format: The moderator will call on members of the audience (and draw questions
from the Internet). Each candidate will have 2 minutes to respond to each question.
Following those initial answers, the moderator will invite the candidates to
respond to the previous answers, for a total of 1 minute.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 6pm -- Third Presidential debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.
Topic: Domestic and economic policy
Moderator: Bob Schieffer of CBS
Staging: Seated at a table
Format: Same as first presidential debate, plus each candidate will get a
90-second closing statement.
